What exactly is a forum ban supposed to do?

I see some profiles with the avatar behind bars. They certainly seem to be active on the forums, so I'm confused as to the effects of the bars.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what it's about, and the actual effects of being 'jailed'?

You can't post your own threads while jailed, and you have a limited number of posts you can make on existing threads per day

I see. That would explain it. Thank you.

What are the usual reasons for someone being banned?

Breaking any of the forum rules.

Avatar behind bars means Rikers Island.

Guess one has to do a serious infraction to get to Banhattan.

Oh there's a bit more to it than that, @Kitten, we have pretty thick skin. What we don't have is a lot of lenience for the breaking of rules that are clearly defined and agreed to when an account is opened ;)

That said, since the question has been asked and answered, I'll be closing this thread.
