Hounds SP2 against rhinox

Is the grenade after hounds SP2 supposed to act as a physical attack cause to me if would seem more like a ranged. Would just like some clarification as to if this is supposed to work like this or if it's supposed to be another way.

    It removes a shield? So it should be backstepped?

    Sidestepping definitely doesn't work lol. Haven't tried backstepping yet.
