Alliance Creation Error

Good morning, I've been trying without success to create an alliance. Every name I've chosen says it's already taken by another alliance, but when I try searching for that exact name it says no alliances were found. Suggestions?

    Extra details: I'm playing on an iPhone 7 (iOS 10.3.1) with cellular service through AT&T
