That SP button sure doesn't wanna work today

For some reason my special button just doesn't want to work today. It's lost me 2 arena battles so far...I'm jamming the button and dude just stands there...OR I'm trying to save power, holding a block and my guy decides to burn an SP1.

    And here i thought it was a smudgy screen or just wear and tear.
