Raid Medals win/loss

What determines Raid Medal amount on wins losses? I've never seen anything that gives me more than 31 Medals(usually 30 is the max) but I'm losing 38 medals on defeats even by people around the same Medal count as me? What gives?

    Bigger the point spread bigger medals so if you 2000 and someone at 1500 beats you you lose bigger medals and vice versa
