Bot Uses

I've noticed throughout this forum and my own experience that one person's #1 is another person's abject failure of a bot. So I think a better idea than having disputable bot tiers, there should be a discussion of bot uses and skills which are real and unquestionable, such as rather than saying Prowl or jazz is the best scout in the game, talk about their skillsets and how you use them to their maximum ability. This would help newer members of the community learn tactics while giving veterans a better place to diffuse their ideas about which bot is superior in what situation.

    Galvatron vs everyone:
    Block, dodge, block DARK BURN!

    Motormaster vs everyone:
Sidestep, rush, melee, sidestep, rush SP2!
    vs Cyclonus? Rage quit!

I use Prowl alot because his melee buffs can do damage to even the most heavily armored brawler and his power control at high sig levels is amazing...plus the sp2 hits like a demo bot.

I feel like poor Barricade is often overlooked and undervalued. I wouldn't say he's the best Scout by any means, but he can do more than people give him credit for. Especially since I think there's more to him than just Backfire.

If you look at Barricade's other abilities, Backfire is part of a bigger picture. I notice that when the A.I. has Backfire, they are less likely to activate their specials (because if they do, it would be extremely painful). This would actually be almost as beneficial, since the Opponent genrates more power. Why would the Opponent having more power be beneficial for Barricade, you ask? It's because Barricade's Critical Damage is increased by a substantial amount if the Opponent has a lot of power. And, I have to say the Critical Damage could be absolutely insane at times. And if you're worried about the Opponent gaining too much power, you could launch an SP2 to Steal some power to make yourselves even and the process starts over again. Usually, I would get the Opponent to Max Power, then launch an SP2 in their face just for the stealing and the Crit damage dealing (that rhyme was bad, I know).

There's also his synergy with Grindor that grants Power Lock, which amplifies his Power Controlling abilities even further, incase you want to keep the Opponents Power at a certain level to deal damage.

The main point is that Barricade practically manipulates the Opponent's Power Bar to his advantage, able to control how much power they can generate to fit his needs. Even without that, he can be a pest when you knock him down, as he get's super evadey, so it's best to avoid knocking him down.

Only con that he has is that his health is generally not the greatest, so he can't take too much of a hit. But that shouldn't be too much of an issue if you're careful. So, all in all, he's not the best of the Scout's, but he is pretty close imo, and shouldn't be underestimated either.
  • I definitely agree with @ScarredArachnid333! I still love using Barricade as one of my main Bots.

There's a lot of bots to cover, so I'll just stick with my two main teams. Also, keep in mind that I'm no Super Ninja Pro, just been playing for awhile.
    A Team:
    Ultra Magnus
PROS - Here we have one of the tankiest bots in the game, able to shrug off just about anything once his stacks get going. His life bar is also pretty impressive for a Tactician, letting him soak up a few hits until his "reactive armor" gets up to speed. His synergies make monsters out of an Autobot team, and (absorb ranged mods aside) he always has a selection of tools to make any bot that relies on attack/armor buffs to break down in a useless, sobbing wreck.
CONS - Even when the stars align, he's never going to put up massive damage numbers. Also, trick his resistance stacks and he's wide open for abuse. He's not a "wham, bam, thank you Arcee" bot, and needs a long fight to grind his opponent into the trenches. Also, his sig is kinda forgettable.
    Grimlock
PROS - Me Grimlock scoff at puny debuff bots! Me just get mad, and you no like me when I'm mad! Seriously, this guy makes chumps out of a whole host of bots that could otherwise leverage nasty kits. He also has reliable burns on both his heavy and S1, so Nanojack on a Harm Accelerator is a joke. Also has the thick health bar common to brawlers, even if he doesn't get any armor stacks to back it up.
CONS - NEEDS HIS SIG. Without it, he's basically a shark with better stats and some burn. Also, keeping his buffs going requires a very specific rhythm and sometimes you have to decide whether it's worth it to take a hit just to get into alt-form. Dark Burns and any other "insta-DOT" gets around his biggest strength as well, so tread carefully around Galvatron and Megatronus, among others.
    Prowl
PROS - One of the Kings of Special Denial. Keep building his S1 and watch your opponent's power bar burn. His attack stacks and the high crit rate common to Scouts mean that he can dish out some brutal burst damage, and his sig just makes everything downright unfair. For bonus points, his S2 involves cocking his shotgun by twirling it like John Wayne.
CONS - Sorta needs his sig to truly shine, even if it's nowhere near required to be useful. Also, while he's pretty sturdy by Scout standards, that's still not saying much. He also runs the risk of ending up on the wrong side of "revenge" damage, like Rhinox's shields, due to his attack buffs pumping his damage output.
    Mirage
PROS - The greatest Blue Blur around, this bot has an entire garage full of tools to throw at his opponent, from Power Drain to chain stun to practically infinite attack stacks while playing keep-away. Get smacked around a bit? No problem, 'cause he's got a rechargeable shield that can tank pretty much anything you can throw at it. His alt-form purifies Burn, and he's got some nice synergies with Prowl and Arcee to boost his damage and keep the hurt coming.
CONS - The thing about his shield? Get inside it to melee range and it won't do anything to protect his fragile chassis from taking a beating. Also, his specials are good, but they don't really become GREAT without following through after the fact. Get hit after a special and you can very easily lose that fancy buff, and Mirage lives on those buffs.
    Arcee
PROS - She kept Daniel alive during that whole Unicron fiasco, she must be doing something right. A crit machine on the level of Scouts, her ranged game is up there with Starscream and Galvatron after some ranking. Her bleeds can become a hemorrhage in a hurry, and power gain off of those crits can either lead to chaining S1 or rapidly building to S3 before your opponent knows what hit them.
CONS - Her focus on ranged attacks and bleeds can restrict your options against some bots, and she's possibly even more fragile than Mirage. Very much a "glass cannon", she's best when protected by lots of distance.

    My B Team:
CW Megatron - ALL HAIL THE TRUE LORD MEGATRON! This guy can lay out some hurt, and then kick your opponent while they're down. A fully charged heavy shot chews up significant health, even without getting into his fuseable debuffs. Once he's done that, the gates are wide open for some serious hurt, and almost no bot is safe from having their biggest strengths turned against them.
CONS - As solid as he is, I feel like he needs his sig to truly shine, and for as reliant as he is on specials, he doesn't have any tools to help him get there faster. And he doesn't turn into a giant pistol, but that's just nitpicking.
    Soundwave
PROS - Has a voice like Cyborg Morgan Freeman, and Ravage is the best. Who's a good boy? Yes you are! Yes you...ahem. While it's not flashy, he has a quick and consistant way out outrun the opponent's power, and it's tied to a heavy that the AI seems to have problems dodging. While his S3 doesn't do much damage-wise, in my experience it tends to have good odds on throwing debuffs, and in the meantime that S2 hits HARD. Like, seriously, I think Ravage has killed more bots than Soundwave himself.
CONS - Until that first heavy connects, you're kinda out of luck, and he doesn't have a good, consistant way to mess with the opponent's power if they catch up to him. Also, his sig is pretty underwhelming unless you can crank it to a high level, and even then it could use some work. Finally, we need actual voice clips, Kabam! I demand to hear that buttery-smooth Vocoder voice in all its glory!
    Ramjet
PROS - Another bot who can lay the smack down, his specials deal respectable damage even without his sig, and he's got some amazing synergies that turn his kit into a world of pain and fire.
CONS - While his specials deal decent damage, he really needs his sig to feel like a true Demo Class. Even with his sig, if the AI decides you shouldn't connect with a heavy then all you're going to do is get smacked around and countered all day. Chaining stuns and burns is finicky, and in general his playstyle feels like it relies too much on the mercy of the AI rather than your own skills.
    Kickback
PROS - One of the few who need not quake in fear of Robotronus, his power leaks and consumption abilities can shut down even the baddest bot with a bit of finesse. Post-buff, his S2 gouges out chunks of both life and power, and his evade buff, while pretty situational, has saved my butt a few times.
CONS - About as sturdy as a real life grasshopper. He's a specialist who's all about power denial and DOT, so he lacks the toolkit to deal with bots like Motormaster or Galvatron who don't need specials to tear him apart.
    Motormaster
PROS - Dash-in, combo, heavy, repeat. He's simple, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. A straight-up damage dealer and debuff dominator who gladly wades into furballs because he knows he can walk out the other side. Get his sig at high levels, and at low health he sorta starts looking like Broly from the old Dragonball movies.
CONS - While his routine works, more bots are being introduced who can work around him effectively. It's easy to lose track of his life bar when the scrap metal hits the fan, and Unstoppable doesn't mean Invincible. DOT is his enemy, as is anything that can resist his debuffs or heightened attack.
