My favourite character is an autobot (optimus prime) but every bot after that is a decepticon (soundwave being my second fav and shockwave being my 3rd) if i had to make a top 10 favourite list, one wpuld be an autobot and the rest will be decepticons

they tend to have better stories and explanations of their actions and desires.
and outside of G1 they are not the bad guys (as a whole- Starscream will always be a greedy self serving piece of work-, just the ones forced into the arena and made to fight every day, who rebelled against their oppressors, not the autobots, but to whom the autobots remained loyal.

I love the Main 4! But if I had to choose one it would be the Decepticons since it does have some of my favorites such as Megs, Starscream, the Waves, and much more. However, I said I loved all of them and here's why:

Why the Autobots are Awesome:

Ah, the Autobots, the ideal goody goods that defend the universe from the evil forces of the Decepticons. The Autobots were my favorite part of the G1 show because it represented something simple yet unique: a unity of trust and friendship. See the Decepticons are stronger than the Autobots, that's a fact. But while the Autobots lack their strength, they make up for it with their trust in one another which the Decepticons lack most of the time. This allows the Autobots to overcome the Decepticons, through teamwork between members that can utilize their own strengths, such as Grimlock''s strength and Perceptor''s intelligence. And Optimus Prime is possibly one of the greatest role models in fiction, always inspiring everyone to be themselves and help the Autobot cause anyway they can. That is what a true hero is.

Why the Decepticons are Awesome:

Megatron can be written as a great villain. A tragic hero who only wanted to save Cybertron from a corrupt government, he became the thing he despised the most: corrupt. During his revolution he created the Decepticons. That origin alone is why the Dcepticons are so great. Most of them weren't bad to be bad. Soundwave was abandoned and had no purpose. Shockwave was rendered emotionless and follows cold, calculating logic. That's the thing about villains; there isn't any moral restraint, so they can fully express on why they do the things they. And villains/Decepticons execute their plans in the most brutal fashion, while still believing they're in the right. It's these methods that makes them branch from the Autobots, yet both factions want the same idealistic goal: peace. But unfortunately, the Decepticons version of peace is through tyranny.

Why the Maximals are Awesome:

The Axalon Maximal crew became more than they expected to be. The crew just wanted to explore the universe without. They never asked to fight the Predacons, their ship just happened to be the closest ship to the stolen Predacon vessel. They never prepared for this and they all had conflicting personalities. Cheetor had a hard time following orders, Rattrap was a jerk, and Dinobot was a bad guy. To make matters worse was that Primal wasn't an experienced leader. But as the show went on the Maximals become kinder to each other and more obidient, like for example Dinobot's change from ruthless warrior to compassionate hero. Primal would also become more experience. The Maximals would recruit more members and lose some, but they were still united no matter what would happen. Not bad Munkey. Not bad.

Why the Predacons are Awesome:

The Predacon Renegade group in Beast Wars are very similar to the Decepticons, yet very different. Like the Decepticons, the Preds had an idology of conquest to achieve goals and they are their descendants. Unlike the Decepticons, they don't have an army; they are just a small group of criminals. That's why the Predacons are so unique; they are a dysfunctional group with each member having their own agenda, but they coincide with the Predacon's main agenda. It reminds me of a supervillain team like the Sinister 6, they can barely seem to work together. Despite these conflicting plans, the group lasted longer than it should have. The team could have disbanded or killed each other but they didn't because they needed each other for their own agendas. Tarantulas needed Megatron to get to the Ark. Inferno needed to obey someone due to his ant-like mentality. Megatron needed troops to betray him to keep him on his toes and substitute his enemies plans into his plans. The Predacons were viscous and they proved it without needing an army. Yeeeessss.

It’s Autobots and Maximals for me!!
I have favorite characters from both factions, and I just can’t decide between the two!!
Though when you think of it, the Autobots are the ancestors of Maximals, and some of the Maximals were actually Autobots!
After the Great War of 2036 the remaining Autobots decided to set aside their faction, scan new forms and become the Maximals! ( mainly being Prowl, Ironhide, and Silverbolt, as these were some of the only remaining Autobots that survived the war ) the Autobots (now Maximals) defeated the Deceptions, and that’s when the BW Megatron started the faction of Predacons!
It’s quite an interesting story, and you can read it right online, on Transformers Wiki The title of the story is Dawn of Predacus
