What is attack rating?

Play more than 2 years, still do not know "Attack rating" really means.

Someone say more damage. I guess it also combines reaction time enemy react to player's attack, dodge/move/counter attack.
or else? Thank you.

    Eh that’s a screen shot of my wasp. The yellow arrow was pointing to the attack rating.

    I always thought that yellow pointer is base damage per hit. lol
    Not ordinary English user myself,If this the case, Why not just say damage. or is it just collective word.
    So the word attack=damage?

    Not ordinary English user either but hey, there's the concept of damage control (armor, resistance) in the equation, and Critical Damage can boost your attack. So attack is not damage. Roughly, you can use something like "Attack * AttackBoost * (1- Armor) * (1 - Resistance) = Damage" to have an idea.

    Then you randomize the result of that equation within certain upper and lower bounds.
